We started life over 20 years ago with a monthly 8-page legal newsletter for facilities managers, produced from a back bedroom by David Sharp, one of only two employees then and still our Managing Director today.
Our aim was to demystify: helping people understand complex information by explaining it in plain English, giving them power to make informed decisions about their own lives and careers.
David’s passion for learning saw him expand the company’s services first into book publishing, then take the business online in 1999 with one of the first email newsletters of its kind in the UK, rapidly growing to a subscriber base of 35,000 people.
Our can-do attitude saw us expand into training – both traditional classroom, and the rapidly developing elearning sector. Little did we know then that this would become our main strength and focus.
The company, then known as Workplace Law, was shortlisted for a number of awards in 2005 and 2006
We won the Periodical Publisher’s Association Award for ‘Business Website of the Year (paid-for)’ in 2008.
In 2010, International Workplace established a state of the art training centre on Clerkenwell Road, in the heart of London's bustling legal district. The International Workplace Executive Centre has been open ever since and is our flagship training venue for face to face courses.
Our awards success continued: winning Silver at the Elearning Age Awards 2011 and shortlisted as Elearning Developer of the Year in 2013.
Increasingly, we were bringing expertise in house, which allowed us to further expand our services to provide consultancy support to our expanding base of prestigious corporate clients.
In health and safety, environmental management and human resources, our clients rely on us to give them timely, trusted advice and – where they outsource work to us entirely – to help them manage risk and boost their performance.
Our awards success continued, seeing us win the CDM-Coordinator of the Year category at the Association of Project Safety Awards in 2014.
In July 2014 we rebranded the company as International Workplace, with a remit to expand our global reach.
Our passion to demystify complex information remains to this day. In fact, new technology has brought us tools to cascade learning and provide evidence of understanding at a faster rate, and a lower cost, than ever – benefits we know are greatly valued by clients who have global operations.
As we say at International Workplace: here’s to the future!™ We hope you will be a part of it.
