Employment contract

An employment contract is an agreement entered into between an employer and an employee at the commencement of the period of employment and stating the exact nature of their business relationship, specifically what compensation the employee will receive in exchange for specific work performed.

Employment contracts can be permanent, temporary, fixed term or zero hours.

Once agreed they are a legally binding document which is formed when the employee agrees to work for pay.

Employers are required to provide a written employment contract within 2 months of an employee starting work, as long as they are employed for 1 month or longer.
