One-day FM Legal Update: 4 October 2017
Our next one-day FM Legal Update takes place on 4 October in London. Now in its 18th year, it’s still the most popular legal briefing in the sector.
The programme changes every time we run it, to ensure we are covering the key events of the past twelve months, while also looking ahead to regulations expected to come on stream in 2018.
In health and safety, we’ll be covering the Grenfell Tower fire, and the implications for commercial landlords, FM service providers and building managers. We’ll also be looking at new corporate manslaughter guidance designed to reduce sentences for a guilty plea, and recent trends in the application of the Sentencing Guidelines, which seem to be suggesting a tougher approach to enforcement.
In the October session, we’ll be looking at recent legionella cases and whether the existing industry training programmes are fit for purpose, given the levels of potential risk.
We’ll also be looking at the topical issues of mental health and workplace well-being, and the HSE’s Fee for Intervention (FFI) programme and how it’s working in practice.
In the FM, property and environmental spheres, given the increased terrorist threat we will be focusing on recently produced national guidance on security in crowded places and on improving physical security. There will also be sessions on the practical implications of the F Gas phase out, and information about the new IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671, coming into force in July 2018.
In HR and employment law and practice, we will be covering the new gender pay reporting requirements coming into force from April 2018, and reviewing the latest case law around the application of holiday pay and the minimum wage in the gig economy. We’ll also be looking at the employee relations aspects of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – the biggest change in data protection law in the last 20 years – coming into force in May 2018.
Most importantly, the day takes place in informal surroundings, giving you plenty of chance to network with colleagues and discuss the issues with our expert panel of presenters.
