New health and safety and environmental training matrices now available
In 2013 we conducted a research project looking at organisations’ training matrices and as a result of that have now published new matrices which identify best practice health and safety competencies for a wide range of roles and can be applied to any industry.
We wanted to discover what the minimum requirement was for those taking on roles and what the expectations were for training to be completed within six months to a year.
The results of this research were then analysed and led to the development of a best practice training matrix in the areas of health and safety and environmental training.
It is clear that businesses are becoming more sophisticated in managing and organising training, and increasingly, delivery is centralised in a learning and development function. As well as making it easier to manage costs, this also helps companies plan their training activity, develop talent, ensure competency and support compliance.
The key planning tool is the training is the training matrix, which at its simplest, is a list of roles mapped against the training expected of individuals in those roles.
Commenting, Workplace Law’s Head of Health and Safety, Simon Toseland, said:
“What better way to get involved with Health and Safety week than to review the training requirements within your business. Whether it’s a tailored refresher on your companies risk assessment process or an accredited qualification, having good training is essential in order to improve your health and safety culture. Our health and safety matrix will help you choose the right course for the right people within your organisation.
“The benefit of training not only demonstrates compliance with legislation, but is also a vital ingredient in preventing accidents and improving productivity.”
