RICS and Workplace Law announce series of FM case studies

At the launch of RICS’ Global Strategic FM Guidance Note, the professional body announced its partnership with Workplace Law to produce a series of case studies on the FM industry. The case studies will demonstrate to people outside the sector the tremendous contribution that strategic FM can make to corporate aims and objectives.

The case studies have been developed in response to, and in recognition of, a growing demand within the industry to highlight the relevance of the profession. The approach has been to illustrate the value delivered by strategic FM by focusing on a particular theme and industry sector, drawing on real business cases to demonstrate success and the strategic impact of FM.

The case studies were announced following the launch of RICS’ Global Strategic Facilities Management (FM) Guidance Note by RICS Chief Executive, Sean Tompkins, RICS FM Board member Kath Fontana, and RICS’ Global Commercial Property Director, Johnny Dunford. The guidance provides recommendations on developing, implementing and evaluating a strategic plan for the running and servicing of individual buildings and property portfolios, in order to boost organisational performance.

Johnny Dunford, Global Commercial Property Director at RICS, said:

“This series of case studies will help to demonstrate the vital importance of a strategic FM plan to not only the smooth running of buildings but to the ongoing success and profitability of business. We are pleased to be working in partnership with Workplace Law to deliver these case studies and plan to release detailed findings from the case studies next year to support the continued professionalisation of the FM industry and to inform the wider business community of its benefits.”

David Sharp, Managing Director of Workplace Law, said:

“There is widespread agreement within facilities management circles that FM needs to prove its value. The case studies are a series of ‘short stories’, whose aim is both to educate and inspire.  We know what a good job is being done in our industry. We want these case studies to tell the FM success story to business.

“RICS approached Workplace Law earlier this year with a view to creating a series of case studies, highlighting best practice within the FM industry. In response to a growing demand within the industry for this type of project, and in an effort to professionalise and highlight the excellent work being done in the sector, this is a great initiative to be involved in. I’m really looking forward to playing a part in what I think is a very exciting opportunity to develop best practice in FM on an international scale.”

RICS’ Global Strategic FM Guidance note is available to both members and non-members of RICS. It will be launched in Brussels on Wednesday. The series of case studies will be published in early 2014.
