Volunteers

Volunteers who work within your organisation are not employees or workers and therefore have limited protection under employment law.

Volunteers are provided with protection and under Health and Safety legislation and discrimination as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.

Organisations should look to provide volunteers with a clear induction and outline what their role is and what duties they are expected to perform.

Organisations need to manage the volunteer process carefully and ensure that the lines are not blurred between an employee and volunteer arrangement.
