BIFM Lifetime Achievement Award Winner
I make no apology for sending my public congratulations to this year’s winner of the BIFM Lifetime Achievement Award, Martin Pickard. International Workplace, through its previous incarnation as Workplace Law, would not exist as it does today without Martin’s early support.
Martin has been a long-term advocate of professionalising facilities management (long before the phrase was popular), and has always supported the development of standards and common-sense regulation in the sector – always with an eye to adding value to both the client’s and the service provider’s operations.
As a member of the BSI drafting committee, Martin was one of a small number of influential people that helped produce BS 11000, the recognised standard for Collaborative Business Relationships, which has proved useful to many in the FM sector.
In a busy world where we all find it difficult to devote time to help others, I was delighted – but not surprised – to read and hear from so many other people in facilities management just how much support and encouragement Martin had given them too, just like he has always given me.
Martin’s latest venture to promote learning and development in the FM sector is through his work with one of the City of London livery companies, who are inviting entries for a Young FM of the Year award. I’m delighted to support him in this initiative.
