Workplace Law and Kennedys provide RIBA with employment advice
The Workplace Law Group and Kennedy’s solicitors have joined up to author a new publication designed to introduce architects practices to the essentials of employment law and practice. The new 120-page RIBA Good Practice Guide: Employment is one of a series of three new books published by RIBA Enterprises, launched at the Institute on 17 January 2006.
Workplace Law Group co-authored the book with Brian Gegg of Kennedy’s solicitors. Both organisations have been actively involved in advising the architectural sector on employment and health and safety law in the past, having produced the RIBA Student Employment Contract in 2004. Commenting on the launch of the book, co-author David Sharp, Managing Director of Workplace Law Group, reflected:
“A lot of work has gone into this book in understanding the very particular needs of architects as employers. We have been very impressed by the commitment of the RIBA to support good employment policy, demonstrated by the rigorous process that went into producing this new guide. Architects are always under pressure to deliver, on time and on budget; we hope this new publication will help them understand how good employment policy can ease, rather than exacerbate these pressures.”
The book contains 13 sections including issues such as: employment status; recruitment and selection; contracts of employment; discrimination; family-friendly working; health, safety and welfare; protecting the business; employment policies; staff development; TUPE; and discipline and termination. Each section lists useful sources of further information.
