A one-day health and safety management course by International Workplace

A brand-new one-day classroom-based course that gives learners a basic introduction to managing safety in their workplace. This six-hour course provides an insight into everything managers need to be aware of to keep their workplaces and teams safe.

Designed by our highly qualified and experienced team of trainers, this course will bring your teams up to speed on health and safety management.

Tailored to your own organisation, your team will learn the basics of health and safety management, including the legal framework that underpins it, policy and risk assessment, and then be able to drill down into the key areas relevant to your organisation – focusing on the issues that are important to you.

The course is ideal for those seeking a broad introduction to health and safety management and includes an optional short online assessment. All learners receive a certificate of completion for compliance purposes.

Outline and content

Introduction to health and safety is a one-day course delivered via virtual classroom or face-to-face training by one of our qualified trainers.

The course is split into a morning session and an afternoon session.

Morning Session

The morning of the course takes you through the key health and safety basics, including:

  • Health and safety policy.​
  • The law – the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and other Regulations.​
  • Why do health and safety? How can I influence health and safety in my workplace?​
  • Roles and responsibilities.​
  • Health and safety policy – what does yours say?​
  • Risk assessments.​
  • Categorising hazards.​

Afternoon Session

The afternoon of the course focuses in on hazards. Here, companies choose from the following extensive list of hazards, to receive a tailored course suitable to their requirements:

Learning outcomes

By the end of the Introduction to health and safety course, learners will be able to:

  • Have a thorough understanding of the reason to manage health and safety in a workplace.
  • Understand their own roles and responsibilities and that health and safety is everyone’s responsibility.
  • Have a good knowledge of the legal framework underpinning health and safety.
  • Be able to create and manage their company’s health and safety policy.
  • Be able to undertake risk assessments in their workplace.
  • Be more knowledgeable about the main hazards found in their workplace.

No prerequisites required.

Course length

The duration of the Introduction to health and safety course is one day.

Up to 12 people.

Assessment

Learners have an optional short assessment at the end of the course.

Certification

Learners will receive a certificate upon completion.
