Here’s what some of our learners say about our online NEBOSH training:
“I loved the virtual classroom! I work from home most of the time now and so the virtual classroom fits well with how I work. I am dyslexic so the ability to have all my notes, course books, revision etc. all around was very comforting.” Claire Wilson, CMS Law
“Thank you, International Workplace, for the excellent delivery of my NEBOSH virtual classroom course. The delivery was professional and supported me with my training needs. I have to say I have attended a lot of training sessions and never come across such an honest, open and dedicated person as Jamie. I really enjoyed the quizzes before we started our sessions. Jamie is very supportive – he always responds to every email and is happy to help and guide.”
Stefana Ivan, Cleaning and Waste Manager, OCSHow is this NEBOSH course assessed?
It’s fair to say that learners generally don’t enjoy the exam experience! When the National General Certificate was assessed by a closed book timed exam, we found that many learners disliked this format, feeling it didn’t let them fully demonstrate their knowledge.
Many were discouraged by the pressure and fear of failure. In response (and also largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic) NEBOSH moved to a safer, more flexible online assessment method.
From August 2020, open-book exams were introduced for popular certifications, focusing not just on knowledge but also on its application in real-world scenarios, with learners encouraged to demonstrate analysis, evaluation, creativity, and critical thinking.
“The new style open book exams are designed to reflect real life and put you at the heart of a scenario. Instead of sitting in a stuffy classroom recalling each element from memory, learners receive a hypothetical workplace situation and a set of questions. As it’s an open book exam you’re given 24 hours to use study materials to prepare your own arguments and observations. The biggest advantage of this is that you’re no longer required to remember entire pieces of legislation concerning health and safety. Instead, you're required to analyse the situation and determine causation, identify positives and negatives and make recommendations for improvement.”
Jamie Robinson, NEBOSH trainer, International Workplace
Here's a comprehensive overview of the assessment process:
NG1 Open Book Examination (OBE)
- Format: Scenario-based assessment.
- Duration: 24 hours to complete; typically takes 4–5 hours.
- Resources: Open book format allows use of notes, textbooks, and online resources.
- Verification: Following the OBE, a tutor will conduct a short verification interview within 3–4 days to confirm the authenticity of your work.
- Completion Window: Up to 24 hours to complete the assessment, starting from 9:00 AM UK time on the scheduled exam day.
NG2 Practical Risk Assessment
- Task: Conduct a risk assessment and develop an action plan for your workplace.
- Submission: Submit the completed project directly to NEBOSH, typically within 10 working days after the NG1 exam.
- Assessment Outcome: Marked as either "Pass" or "Refer" (fail).
- Validity: All assessments for the qualification must be successfully completed within 5 years.
When will I receive my NEBOSH course certificate?

Once your results are released, your physical certificate will be sent to International Workplace within 20 working days. Your certificate will include your full legal name (as registered with NEBOSH).
