Fire risk assessment introduction

Whether you are a small or large organisation, fire and its consequences pose a serious and significant risk to your business. The message from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) and the fire authority is clear – the management of fire safety falls to the responsible person (e.g. an employer, a manager, a landlord or tenant, a charity or voluntary organisation).

Under the RRO, the responsible person must ensure that a ‘suitable and sufficient’ fire risk assessment for each of its premises has been carried out by a competent person.

Why is fire safety important?

Fire and its consequences pose a serious and significant risk to all businesses. Here’s a brief summary of some major reasons fire safety is important. It:

  • Protects the lives of employees and visitors.
  • Ensures legal compliance and avoids fines.
  • Safeguards property and reduces financial losses.
  • Maintains business continuity and minimises downtime.
  • Meets insurance requirements and supports claims.
  • Preserves reputation and stakeholder trust.
  • Boosts employee confidence in a safe workplace.
  • Protects the environment from fire-related hazards.

Given the above reasons, and the fact that there is a potential for fire in almost all workplace scenarios, it's vital that anyone responsible for the safety of themselves and other individuals undertake the correct fire risk assessment training.

International Workplaces’ fire risk assessment course is designed for individuals responsible for the management of fire safety. This person must:

  • Identify the fire hazards.
  • Identify people at risk.
  • Evaluate, remove or reduce the risks.
  • Record their findings, prepare an emergency plan and provide training.
  • Review and update the fire risk assessment regularly.

Our course is there to help you understand your duties for fire safety and implement measures to control the risk of fire in the workplace.

You’ll learn how to incorporate fire risk assessment into your ongoing management procedures and to implement any required changes that the assessment process raises.
